An example of how Savica partners with those that share the same values, is our partnership with the Oncological Hospital in Surabaya (RSOS). Savica provided communication training for their health staff (nurses and doctors). Role plays and other interactive approaches were used to increase knowledge on effective communication between health workers and patients/caretakers, identify areas for improvement and exercise to apply effective communication methods within their roles. After a series of three sessions, pre and post assessment of the training showed that most of the training participants improved and applied their new-gained knowledge and skills.
In addition, Savica also facilitated training on effective communication for Reach for Recovery (RRS) volunteers, a support group for cancer patients fostered by RSOS. This training aimed to increase their interpersonal communication skills, so that they are not only able to be an appropriate source of information but also motivate patients to get the treatment they need.
